2017 Santa Fe Homeless Persons' Memorial

On Wednesday, December 20th at 3:30 PM, people of Santa Fe will gather to remember, honor, and celebrate the lives of our unsheltered friends, family, and neighbors who passed away in 2017. Each year, this memorial vigil takes place at our Lady of Guadalupe Church at Guadalupe and Agua Fria St. in the courtyard. This will be a time to come together to share memories, listen to stories, and be in each other's company. If you live in Santa Fe, please consider joining us.

For more information about the vigil, you can contact Stephanie at the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness at (505) 982-9000, or Nancy at Santa Fe Community Services at (505) 310-4624.

Below are photos, video, and notes from the 2016 memorial:

The names of the people who passed away in 2016 were hand-painted on stones. Each name was read aloud followed by a moment of silence. Afterwards people from the vigil were invited to take a stone with them to remember their friend, family member, or neighbor.

Dozens gathered for the memorial, which included speakers from various service providers, people who live on the streets and in shelters, as well as friends and family members.

The service was officiated by Joshin Byrnes of Upaya Zen Center's Street Ministry Project.

A deep thanks to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for hosting the memorial year after year.
