On Saturday, October 14th, St. Elizabeth Shelter's staff, clients, and neighbors participated in the 4th annual Hunt for the Red Rocktober. Each year the Santa Fe Watershed Association organizes this community-wide Santa Fe River cleanup "that challenges volunteers to be on the lookout for particular red rocks hidden in the river bed as they remove litter from the Santa Fe River. A returned red rock increases the odds of winning an awesome prize from our drawings!" (SFWA)

St. E's Jake Fulmer organized the cleanup of one portion of the river, inviting current and former shelter guests along with our staff and neighbors in Santa Fe. The group met in the parking lot below Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10 AM for snacks and drinks before beginning to clean the river.

After the morning refreshments, the group took to the watershed and found four red rocks. Jake notes that while the prizes are awesome, "it's also just fun to hang out with the guys outside of the shelter." It's another opportunity to get to know all of the people of our city.

Our Men's Shelter regularly gathers to clean our river as well as the Railyard Park. If you're interested in joining us, please visit our volunteer page here.
