Administration for All Shelter Programs

Deborah Tang, Executive Director: Deborah oversees all aspects of St. Elizabeth’s multifaceted operation. She has worked as director of several domestic violence shelters in the state prior to coming to St. Elizabeth’s, and has extensive background in helping small businesses get started in minority communities. Deborah holds two master’s degrees from the University of New Mexico, one in Community and Regional Planning and the other in Latin American Studies. She also has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Oregon State. Deborah is co-chair of the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness and served on Mayor Coss’ Blue Ribbon Task Force to End Homelessness.

Michael Bartlett, Business Manager: Michael has more than 20 years experience in similar capacities for non-profit and for-profit organizations. A fifth-generation Californian, he moved to Santa Fe in 1999. With over 20 years of business experience, Michael brings his own particular style of business management to both non- and for-profit consulting clients. He has appreciated the opportunity to work with the employees and clients of St E’s since he started in November 2005.

Jim Podesta, Director of Development: Jim has more than 25 years experience in fundraising and communications working with a variety of non-profit organizations in Chicago and Santa Fe. During his career he has worked on five capital campaigns, directed numerous annual-fund efforts, personally solicited and stewarded major gifts from individual donors, foundations, corporations and organizations, as well as created targeted promotional and educational materials in various media.

Anna Carvlin, Data & Development Manager: Anna was born in New Mexico and spent much of her life in Chicago where she earned a B.S. at the University of Illinois. She continued her education in New Orleans at Tulane where she completed a master’s in International Public Health. She has studied abroad in Sri Lanka, Guatemala and Australia. Anna used her education extensively in West Africa where she served in the Peace Corps. Before coming to Santa Fe, Anna resided in Chicago and worked in various capacities at several non profits that focus on issues of homelessness.

Emergency Shelter Operations Staff

Maria Lopez, Emergency Shelter Manager: Maria has been with the shelter for 17 years since starting as a volunteer and this experience has given her unique insights into the needs of Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico’s homeless community.

David Montez, Case Manager: David has been an employee of St. Elizabeth Shelter for 10 years. David takes great pride in the progress that St. Elizabeth has made during these years in assisting thousands of clients to improve their lives. David credits the staff for these accomplishments and all those who have taken an interest in the work St. Elizabeth Shelter does.

Marlon Guite, Resource Center Project Manager: Marlon is a "behind the scenes type of guy". He is here at St. Elizabeth to help with anything anyone might need. In particular, he is responsible for the smooth operations of our Resource Center that attracts 100 people on average.

Susan Montez, Day Supervisor: Susan has been with St. Elizabeth Shelter since April 2007. Prior to joining St. Elizabeth staff, Susan worked in nursing at St. Vincent hospital for over 30 years. Susan is very happy to be at St. Elizabeth Shelter!

Joe Hay, Intern: Before his yearlong internship, Joe worked with the shelter as a weekly desk volunteer and as a back-up overnight attendant. A native of Wisconsin, Joe has nonetheless been a part of the Santa Fe community for a total of four, nonconsecutive years, including two years as a student. With a B.A. in liberal arts and a background in literature and philosophy, working with the homeless has been a challenging new experience for Joe, as well as a welcome change of pace.

Kelly Levy, Intern: Kelly was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated college in June 2005 with a B.A. in history. After college, Kelly spent two years in Americorps first serving at Camphill Village, a community where she lived and worked with disabled residents, and then at Inner Harbour, a residential psychiatric facility for children with behavioral and educational disorders. Kelly plans on staying in Santa Fe to work at St. Elizabeth Shelter for a year a year before attending law school.

Paige Kitson, Intern: Paige graduated from Sterling College in 2004 with a B.A. in Intercultural Education and Leadership and an A.A. in Natural Resource Management. In 2007, she began coursework towards a certificate in Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Counseling. She is committed to working for social and environmental justice and has worked for several non-profit organizations including the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, the Wilderness Society, the Salvation Army, and CrisisLink, a suicide and crisis hotline in the DC area. She spends her free time traveling in the Himalayas, deepening her meditation practice, and drinking lots of hot beverages.

Amber Nichols, Intern: Amber arrived from a small town outside of Charlotte, NC to be an intern at St Elizabeth shelter. Her goals in life include improving the world through compassion and celebration. The West has treated her well so far and she likes riding her bike.

Phil Brito, Night Attendant: Phil is a longtime, dedicated employee at St. Elizabeth Shelter and is vital to the program.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, Night Attendant: Lorenzo works full time as a case manager for people who are HIV positive and he is currently applying to medical school. He loves to cook.

Casa Cerrillos Supportive Living

Shea Goodluck-Barnes, Resident Manager & Counselor: Shea directs this supportive transitional housing program for individuals with disabilities and serves as its licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselor. Previously she worked as a domestic violence counselor and women's advocate at the Navajo United Methodist Center.

Mark Mocha, Resident Manager: Originally from NYC Mark did not enter the human services field until his 40s when he decided to change careers and went back to school for his CASAC (credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor). Always a volunteer at something Mark did several internships and went to work as a substance abuse counselor at a 200 bed shelter in the Bowery in New York. Mark spends his free time finding things to ride and places to ride them.

Sonrisa Family Transitional Living Staff

Neal Windham, Program Manager: Neal directs operations of the supportive transitional family housing program and he has run the program since its inception over 10 years ago. Before joining St. Elizabeth, Neal worked as a youth specialist at a youth emergency shelter and teen transitional living center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Karen Cain, Case Manager: Karen has been a licensed mental health counselor in New Mexico for more than 10 years. Originally from Texas, she began her career at Neighborhood Youth Services and the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center in that state. After moving to Santa Fe, she worked at Esperanza Shelter for five years. Her main focus now is counseling homeless children and families at the emergency shelter and Sonrisa Family Transitional Living Program. She also directs the shelter's Street Homeless Companion Animal Assistance Program.

Siringo Senior Transtional Living

Sam Chavez, Resident Manager Case Manager: Sam directs operations of this supportive transitional senior housing program. He also works as a teacher in the Espanola school system.
