Administration for All Shelter Programs

Deborah Tang, Executive Director: Deborah oversees all aspects of St. Elizabeth’s multifaceted operation. She has worked as director of several domestic violence shelters in the state prior to coming to St. Elizabeth’s, and has extensive background in helping small businesses get started in minority communities. Deborah holds two master’s degrees from the University of New Mexico, one in Community and Regional Planning and the other in Latin American Studies. She also has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Oregon State. Deborah is co-chair of the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness and served on Mayor Coss’s Blue Ribbon Task Force to End Homelessness.

Michael Bartlett, Business Manager: A fifth-generation Californian, Michael moved to Santa Fe in 1999. With over 20 years of business experience, Michael brings his own particular style of business management to both non- and for-profit consulting clients. He has appreciated the opportunity to work with the employees and clients of St E’s since he started in November 2005.

Jim Podesta, Director of Development: Jim has more than 25 years experience in fundraising and communications working with a variety of non-profit organizations in Chicago and Santa Fe. During his career he has worked on five capital campaigns, directed numerous annual-fund efforts, personally solicited and stewarded major gifts from individual donors, foundations, corporations and organizations, as well as created targeted promotional and educational materials in various media.

Erin Sindewald, Data & Development Manager: A Midwestern girl at heart, Erin grew up in the Chicago suburbs and later majored in English at Grinnell College in Iowa. While in college she spent a semester studying in Costa Rica and volunteering for a community development organization in Nicaragua. After graduating in 2008, she spent a year working in communications and development in Washington, DC, at a non-profit health clinic that serves uninsured Latinos. She later worked as a St. E's intern for a year before moving into her current data/development-oriented role. Erin enjoys running in the mountains, reading young-adult fiction, wearing plaid shirts, and exploring new places.

Emergency Shelter Operations

Maria Lopez, Emergency Shelter Program Manager: Maria has been with the shelter for 20 years since starting as a volunteer and this experience has given her unique insights into the needs of Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico’s homeless community.

Shane Lampman, Case Manager/Transition Counselor: Shane began working with St. Elizabeth Shelter as an intern in 1994, and later worked as a Resident Manager for St. E’s family housing program.  Shane completed his Master’s Degree in Cultural Anthropology at Northern Arizona University in 1997, where he studied cross-cultural psychology and human service issues.  He has since worked for a number of non-profits in New York City, including The American Museum of Natural History and the National Religious Partnership for the Environment. Although he has lived in New York City and studied abroad in both Mexico and Costa Rica, Shane considers St. Elizabeth Shelter to be his home, and he is glad to be back.

Susan Montez, Resource Center Program Manager: Susan has been with St. Elizabeth Shelter since April 2007. Prior to joining St. Elizabeth staff, Susan worked in nursing at St. Vincent hospital for over 30 years. Susan is very happy to be at St. Elizabeth Shelter!

Edward Archuleta, Intern: Edward's involvement with St. E's began the week the shelter opened in 1986. After a few weeks working as a volunteer, he moved into the shelter for six months as its first "intern" (though there was no formal internship program at the time). He subsequently served on St. E's board of directors from 1988 to 1996. Edward has also worked for several other non-profits including 1000 Friends of New Mexico.

Paige Kitson, Intern: A graduate of Vermont's Sterling College, Paige holds a BA in Intercultural Education and Leadership. She has worked for several non-profits including Washington DC's suicide/crisis hotline and the Omega Institute. Paige is a student of bhakti yoga, a veteran of Himalayan travel, and enjoys drinking hot beverages. She feels very blessed to be at St. E's!

Joe Pfeifer, Intern: Joe grew up in Wisconsin and began his winding college career in La Crosse earning a certificate in carpentry. After two more years of college at a 4-year university, Joe began traveling the world seeking out people to help, adventure, and possible future careers. After returning to the US and finishing up an associate’s degree, he spent his junior year abroad in England studying his eventual major, sociology. He returned and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois. After a year in Idaho, a place now called home, Joe realized that his great passion in life is to share the love that he has received with others. As such, he is so thankful to be here at St. E's and looks forward to learning, growing, and serving!

Emily Field, Intern: Emily grew up in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She attended Marlboro College in Vermont, where she wrote her undergraduate thesis in creative non-fiction, children's literature, American racism, and the science behind HIV/AIDS. (They're more related than they sound.) Emily is grateful for the opportunity to work, learn, live, and play in the beautiful desert of Santa Fe. 

Erica Lee, Intern: Erica graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and majored in International Business. She hopes to one day work in poverty stricken areas - specifically in developing countries - in the area of International Development.  She would also like to work in ministry. She feels blessed to be at St. Elizabeth Shelter, doing what she can to serve the community of Santa Fe.

Mark Daly, Night Attendant:

Casa Cerrillos Supportive Living Program

Shea Goodluck, Program Manager / Counselor: Shea directs this supportive transitional housing program for individuals with disabilities and serves as its licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselor. Previously she worked as a domestic violence counselor and women's advocate at the Navajo United Methodist Center.

William Kumpey, Case Manager: William started working with the homeless population in 1981 after being homeless for a number of years himself. Over the intervening years he has worked with various populations, including persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness. Prior to working at St. Elizabeth Shelter, William worked as a case manager in Denver at The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.

Sonrisa Family Transitional Living Program

Neal Windham, Program Manager: Neal directs operations of the supportive transitional family housing program and he has run the program since its inception over 10 years ago. Before joining St. Elizabeth, Neal worked as a youth specialist at a youth emergency shelter and teen transitional living center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Siringo Senior Transtional Housing Program

Sam Chavez, Program Manager / Case Manager: Sam directs operations of this supportive transitional senior housing program. He also works as a teacher in the Espanola school system.

Casa Familia Urgent Transition Shelter

Suzanne Pelayo, Program Manager: Suzanne oversees the operational aspects of Casa Familia Urgent Transitional Center. She has worked as an environmental specialist on the planning and development of major capitol improvement projects throughout the county of San Bernardino. She was the Assistant Executive Director of the San Bernardino Local Development Company where she planned, developed and implemented economic development projects on the West side of San Bernardino. In 1983, she changed careers and became employed by the California State Department of Corrections. She held numerous positions which included the supervision of high notoriety offenders and she was in charge of three work furlough facilities in San Diego County. She retired after 25 years of service as a parole supervisor. Suzanne attended California State University, UCLA and studied abroad at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. She has her BA in planning and urban and environmental studies. She loves Santa Fe and is happy to be working with the dedicated staff of St. Elizabeth’s.

Andrew Lopez, Case Manager: Andrew Lopez is a native of Santa Fe and a Veteran of the armed forces where he honorably served in Europe and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.  As the Therapeutic Community Senior Coordinator at the NM Adult Detention Center, he experienced change in clients’ behavior through successfully facilitated activities related to rehabilitation. He has volunteered at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, NM. He also volunteered at the Samaritan House Cold Weather Shelter in Las Vegas, NM. In 2008, Andrew was a reoccurring guest speaker for the D.A.R.E Program in Las Vegas. Andrew has earned his Bachelor’s of Social Work degree from New Mexico Highlands University. During his practicum with The Las Vegas Peace and Justice Center he assisted in the promotion of non-violent conflict and social injustice solutions that the community considered “identified priorities.”  Andrew was co-host of the live Community Peace Radio show with co-founder Pat Leahan.  He also earned his Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.

Jasmine Rodriguez, Evening Supervisor: Jasmine is from Pecos, TX and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in criminal justice. Her experience with working at a non-profit has inspired her to want to get a Master’s in social work. She recently joined the Peace Corps and will be a youth development volunteer in Morocco starting at the end of March. After the Peace Corps and attending graduate school, Jasmine will return to Santa Fe as a social worker.

Carol Nelson, Evening Supervisor:

Dubby Harcharik, Overnight Supervisor: Dubby is a second-year student in the graduate program for the School of Clinical Social Work at New Mexico Highlands University. She worked for ten years at the Santa Fe County Jail as a Correctional Officer and Case Manager/Classification Officer and worked her way up to Unit Manager. She has worked with homeless youth for two years and worked with families with children with behavioral health concerns for 15 months. She has associates degrees in human services, criminal justice, and paralegal studies and a Bachelor’s degree in social work.

Heather Harcharik, Overnight Supervisor: Heather is 23 and working towards her Master’s degree in social work at New Mexico Highlands University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in social work and an Associate’s degree in psychology. She has worked with children as a behavioral management specialist and has cared for elderly clients as an in-home health aide. She has a wonderful daughter and enjoys spending her free time playing and doing art projects with her.

Joanie Roybal, Weekend/Relief Supervisor: Joanie has a Master's degree in Special Education and a Bachelor's degree in nutrition. She has worked with children, youth, and families for the past 20 years. She is a native from Santa Fe. Joanie enjoys working to empower families to be self-sufficient and able to take cake of themselves       

Linnea Knoespel, Relief Staff: Linnea moved to Santa Fe in July 2010 from California to attend graduate schooll at Southwestern College.  Now in her second year of the two year Art Therapy/Counseling program, she is interested in applying her education and previous experiences to more directly work with those in need.  She very much enjoys what she feels called to do as her life's work and is thankful for the opportunity to work with the folks at St. Elizabeth’s.  When not at St. E's or studying, she enjoys spending time with friends in the community, deepening her yoga practice, and hiking with her Scottie dog, Fritz. Currently she is a volunteer at Casa Familia Shelter as well as a relief staff member.
