Overflow Shelter

The Overflow Shelter is available every night from November through March to provide anyone in need a safe and warm space to spend the night.  No one is turned away.  At 7,000 feet elevation, Santa Fe gets quite cold during the winter months and sleeping outdoors can become life threatening. To prevent this, men and women, including mothers with children, are housed in separate facilities and provided with cots or sleeping mats, clean blankets or sleeping bags, nutritious snacks and warm beverages.  Overflow staff also inform them of the services available at St. Elizabeth and other agencies to help improve their current situation.  This program is a collaborative effort between St. Elizabeth, the Frost Foundation, Salvation Army and the local faith community.  Because of it, homeless death due to exposure has been reduced in Santa Fe.
